Ecumenism means the working together of churches separated by theological views, beliefs and practices. Interdenominational cooperation is well advanced in Switzerland. The different churches each naturally hold to their own traditions, but this does not prevent Christians working together. In fact such cooperation is encouraged and supported by the example of their church leaders who meet together regularly and publicly.
The National Ecumenical Council has the very good fortune that its executive committee brings together around one table key people from the churches in Switzerland. This is not usually the case in Europe.
